The Kwara State Government has denied claims that it spent ₦1.2bn on the Moro Bridge, a federal infrastructure linking Kwara to Oyo State.
In a statement released last weekend, the State Ministry of Works described the claims made in a viral video by an individual identified as Ajibare Talks as a malicious campaign of calumny targeted at the state government and its officials.
“As a responsive government, the administration has always intervened whenever there is a situation that could harm citizens, regardless of whether the infrastructure involved is a federal facility like the Moro Bailey Bridge.”
“However, the last palliative intervention on the said bridge cost only ₦27m. This was intended to return the bridge to temporary use, even as the Federal Government has already commenced the construction of a new bridge,” the statement read.
The Ministry further clarified that at no point during the current administration did the Ministry of Works or any other state organ spend ₦1.2bn on such interventions.
According to the statement, the viral video’s claim that the government spent ₦1.2bn during the stewardship of Hon. Abdulquawiy Olododo is an outright falsehood designed to tarnish the image of the official and the administration he serves.
The statement urged the general public to disregard the misinformation, noting that the modest, temporary intervention was carried out with the full knowledge of the Federal Government, which maintains authority over the bridge.
“The video is a sponsored attack on the government and Hon. Olododo, motivated by political reasons,” the statement concluded.
