Kogi Police confirm attack on Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s family residence

The Kogi State Police Command on Thursday confirmed that gunmen attacked the family residence of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP-Kogi Central) in the Obeiba community, located in the Okehi Local Government Area.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Miller Dantawaye, confirmed that the attack occurred on Tuesday night.

“The command has been fully briefed about the unfortunate and criminal incident by the Divisional Police Officer of Okehi LGA. As of now, no arrests have been made,” the Commissioner said.

Dantawaye further assured that investigations were underway, stating, “We will get to the root of the matter and ensure that those responsible for this attack are dealt with.”

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who spoke about the incident, explained that the gunmen had mistakenly assumed she was present in the area at the time of the attack. “They attacked my family house that Tuesday night, believing I was in town,” she said.

The senator added that the swift response from both security operatives and community members had forced the assailants to flee, and fortunately, no one was injured during the attack. A report was promptly filed at the local police area command.

A statement from Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s media team described the attack as a deliberate attempt to intimidate and silence the senator, who represents Kogi Central in the National Assembly.

“We urge the Inspector-General of Police to immediately reinstate her security details, considering the severity of this attack,” the statement read. “We strongly condemn this brazen act of violence and call on the public to remain calm. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s unwavering commitment to truth and to representing her constituents should not be met with violence or intimidation.”
