The Kogi State Police Command has pledged maximum security for the Dekina-Okura State Constituency by-election scheduled for Saturday, August 16.

Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, said the command had developed a comprehensive operational plan, already approved by the Force Headquarters, to ensure a peaceful exercise. He noted that all officers and sister security agencies — including the DSS, Brigade Command, Customs, Immigration, Correctional Service, and Civil Defence — were fully briefed and positioned for the poll.

Dantawaye urged politicians and voters to conduct themselves responsibly, stressing that security agencies would act swiftly against any breach of peace. He called on journalists to remain professional, enhance their observation skills, and promptly report suspicious activities for immediate intervention.

Highlighting achievements since assuming office, the police chief disclosed that 582 suspects had been arrested for offences ranging from kidnapping and armed robbery to homicide and illegal possession of firearms. The command also dismantled criminal networks, rescued kidnapped victims, and recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition, vehicles, and motorcycles.

Dantawaye commended the state government for its support but appealed for more operational vehicles, security gadgets, and logistics to strengthen operations. He assured that informants would be protected and encouraged residents to provide credible intelligence, emphasising that security was a shared responsibility.

Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Segun Salami, praised Dantawaye’s leadership and reaffirmed the media’s commitment to partnering with the police in intelligence gathering and accurate reportage to foster peace and security in the state.
