Kogi NYSC abductees’ rescue: Tinubu hails operation, vows to make Nigeria safer for travel

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has hailed the rescue of 21 persons, including 15 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), who were abducted by criminals in Kogi State last week.

The rescued victims, comprising eight males and 13 females, were freed on Monday following a coordinated search and rescue operation by personnel of the military, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilantes.

Tinubu, in a statement, said the victims were rescued from a kidnappers’ hideout in the forests of Ofu Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, the rescued corps members and other abductees are currently receiving medical attention before they are reunited with their families.

The President disclosed that security forces are maintaining their pursuit of the fleeing kidnappers, stressing that those responsible for the abduction will face the full weight of the law.

He also directed security agencies to sustain pressure on criminal elements and investigate individuals who may have aided or abetted the abduction.

Tinubu said his administration remains committed to ensuring that Nigerians can travel across the country without fear, while assuring parents and families of NYSC members of the government’s resolve to protect their lives and property.

The President also commended the combined search and rescue team for its courage and dedication in securing the safe release of the abductees.

He expressed appreciation to the families and loved ones of the victims for their patience and resilience during the period of uncertainty.
