Kogi Gov't pledges support for varsity teaching hospital accreditation

The Kogi State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to advancing medical education and healthcare delivery by pledging comprehensive support to secure clinical accreditation for the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) Teaching Hospital, Okene.

This strategic initiative is aimed at meeting the rigorous standards set by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) to facilitate the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, announced the commitment during a two-day Joint Committee Meeting held on April 10 and 11, 2026.

As chairman of the committee, Dr. Adeiza emphasized that achieving this accreditation is a vital milestone in the state’s agenda to produce highly skilled medical professionals and establish Kogi State as a regional hub for medical training and quality healthcare.

A primary focus of the government’s efforts is fostering institutional synergy between the parent university in Osara and the teaching hospital in Okene.

The Vice Chancellor of CUSTECH, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, noted that the university has already matriculated students into the 100 and 200 levels of the MBBS programme, making the clinical accreditation of the teaching hospital an urgent priority for their academic progression.

To ensure the hospital is prepared for the official MDCN visit, the Joint Committee conducted an extensive on-site assessment of facilities, including clinical structures, diagnostic equipment, and training infrastructure.

This unified administrative approach, supported by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, reflects a long-term strategy to bridge the healthcare personnel gap through local talent cultivation and improved health outcomes for the citizens of Kogi State.
