A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr Kenneth Okonkwo, has declared that the party is poised to take over power from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday, the actor-turned-politician expressed confidence that the ADC would form Nigeria’s next government, stating that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would be defeated at the polls.

“In 2027, we stand a chance in every election in Nigeria. The true test of the ADC will be in 2027. We are going to form the next government in Nigeria and send Tinubu to Bourdillon,” Okonkwo said.

He noted that under the leadership of former Senate President David Mark, the ADC had restructured itself into a formidable political force capable of contesting in all parts of the country.

“The ADC exists in all 36 states. Rotimi Amaechi is naturally one of the prominent leaders of ADC in Rivers State and the South-South, so it would not be out of place to describe him as the leader of the ADC in Rivers State,” he added.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on September 10 officially recognised the Mark-led national leadership of the ADC following internal reforms that produced new executive officers to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 polls.

Under the new arrangement, Rauf Aregbesola, former Governor of Osun State, was listed by INEC as the party’s National Secretary.

Okonkwo, a former Labour Party spokesperson during the 2023 elections, said the ADC was now better organised to offer Nigerians a credible alternative, adding that the party’s growing influence would reshape the nation’s political landscape before 2027.
