KAROTA, KIRS move to boost Kano revenue

The Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) says it will collaborate with the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) to boost revenue generation.

The Managing Director of KAROTA, Mr Faisal Kabir, disclosed this in a statement issued by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Mallam Abubakar Ibrahim.

Kabir said Kano State had enormous revenue potential that could strengthen government’s budgetary capacity and accelerate development across the state.

“Kano is densely populated, and daily economic activities take place across various sectors,” he said.

He said the scale of economic activities made it necessary to identify and develop untapped revenue sources capable of increasing government revenue.

According to him, closer cooperation between KAROTA and KIRS would facilitate the identification and harnessing of additional revenue opportunities.

Kabir, however, clarified that KAROTA was not a revenue-generating agency but enforced tax laws within its statutory responsibilities.

He assured KIRS of KAROTA’s readiness to support joint initiatives aimed at improving revenue mobilisation and strengthening the state’s financial capacity.

Earlier, the Chairman of KIRS, Alhaji Bashir Maitama, commended KAROTA for initiating the collaboration and expressed the service’s readiness to explore additional revenue opportunities.

Maitama said KIRS would identify opportunities across government agencies and establishments to help the state achieve its revenue targets.

He explained that the visit formed part of the KIRS board’s tour of government agencies and establishments across the state.

According to him, the tour was designed to sensitise government institutions on their responsibilities and encourage collective efforts towards achieving revenue targets.

Maitama said improved cooperation among government agencies would help identify revenue opportunities while supporting the state’s broader development objectives.
