Kano: NHRC receives 120 complaints, resolves 75 in one month

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Kano said it received 120 complaints in August.

The NHRC State Coordinator, Shehu Abdullahi disclosed this in an interview with newmen on Monday in Kano.

‎He said that 75 cases had been treated while 45 were pending.

Abdullahi said that 80 cases were bordered on child abandonment and child rights violations.

According to him, 29 of the cases received during the period under review were on domestic violence and right to life.

“The remaining 11 cases were on economic and cultural rights, law enforcement abuses and neglect of parental responsibilities, ’’he said.

‎Abdullahi said the commission also meditated on marital matters.

He urged couples to be more tolerant of one another in order to handle their responsibilities better.

The coordinator said that the commission will continue to strengthen collaboration with security operatives and other relevant agencies to promote and protect human rights.
