Kano govt. to establish cottage industry hubs to boost local production

Kano State Government says it will establish cottage industry and cottage enterprise hubs across strategic locations in the state to promote local production, accelerate industrialisation and create employment opportunities.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.

According to the statement, Gov. Abba  Yusuf announced the initiative during an empowerment programme for registered butchers organised by the Cottage Trade and Street Hawking Agency (CTSHA) at the Government House, Kano.

Yusuf said the project had been captured in the 2026 approved budget and was designed to provide modern production centres for artisans and small-scale entrepreneurs.

He said the hubs would provide shared workspaces, modern equipment, reliable utilities, storage facilities, business support services, skills development and organised market access to improve productivity and competitiveness.

The governor said the initiative aligned with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda through the promotion of Made-in-Nigeria products and the state government’s Kano First Agenda of supporting local businesses and economic growth.

He added that the hubs would have dedicated sections for butchers, meat processing, leather processing and tannery operations to strengthen the livestock value chain and attract investment.

Yusuf said the initiative would reduce production costs, improve product quality, expand market access and create thousands of jobs in meat processing, leather works, packaging, transportation and other related sectors.

He urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the support, maintain high standards of hygiene and professionalism, and encourage others to register with the agency to benefit from future government interventions.
