June 12: Tinubu fulfilling Abiola’s Hope 93 vision —Ex-lawmaker

A former two-term Lagos lawmaker, Mr Olusegun Olulade, says President Bola Tinunu is fulfilling late MKO Abiola’s Hope ’93 vision for Nigeria.

Olulade, who represented Epe Constituency II between 2011 and 2019 in Lagos House of Assembly, said this in a statement on Thursday to commemorate 32nd anniversary of the annulled June 12 Presidential election.

Newsmen reports that the presidential election was won by late Chief M.K.O. Abiola, but was annulled on June 23, 1993 by Gen. Ibrahim Babangida.

Olulade,  Executive Director at Galaxy Backbone Limited, said that the gains of President’s Renewed Hope Agenda had left nobody in doubt that Tinubu remained a loyal disciple of late Abiola.

He said: “Today, Nigeria ought to be celebrating 32nd uninterrupted years of democratic rule.

“However, the unfortunate annulment of the June 12, 1993 general election disrupted our nation’s democratic journey—an election that was poised to usher Nigeria into the global community of democratic nations after years of military rule.

“That singular setback delayed our transition to civil governance until 1999, when democracy was finally restored. Since then, we have nurtured an unbroken democratic culture.

“While we are not yet where we desire to be as a nation, the emergence of President Bola Tinubu, championing the Renewed Hope agenda, has rekindled the vision once carried by the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola—winner of the annulled 1993 election and symbol of our democratic aspirations.”

According to him, it is a thing of joy to witness President Tinubu, one of the prominent voices who stood boldly against the annulment of that election, now steering the affairs of our nation— translating democratic ideals into tangible progress for all.

“President Tinubu was more than an advocate for justice; he was a loyal disciple of the late MKO Abiola’s vision.

“The gains we are witnessing today across sectors are not accidental but the fruits of preparation, purpose, and patriotism.

“True leaders prepare long before power finds them—and those who prepare well rarely disappoint their people,” Olulade said.

According to him, the current wave of reforms across the economy, institutions, and national orientation reflect a deep understanding of Nigeria’s unique challenges and the courage to implement solutions.

“From bold economic initiatives to re-engineering key government agencies, from innovative education reforms to infrastructure development and global investment partnerships—Nigeria is on a path of purposeful transformation.

“President Tinubu is deliberately working to free our economy from debt, reduce corruption, and build systems that work efficiently and transparently.

“As we commemorate June 12—a day etched in the heart of our national history—I call on all Nigerians to remain hopeful and united behind the #RenewedHopeAgenda.

“Let us be patient and purposeful in our support. As the saying goes, “Slow and steady wins the race.”

“The road ahead may be challenging, but our President is resolute and capable of guiding Nigeria toward the prosperity we all desire,” Olulade said.
