A Judicial Commission of Inquiry has formally indicted the eight-year administration of former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, alleging the misappropriation of over ₦117 billion.

The report, submitted to Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto at the Government House on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, details a pattern of widespread financial irregularities, including systemic disregard for procurement laws and significant abuses of executive authority.

The Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Justice Mu’azu Abdulkadir Pindiga (rtd), presented the far-reaching findings, noting that the inquiry was structured to scrutinize the state’s financial conduct between 2015 and 2023.

According to Justice Pindiga, the ₦117 billion discrepancy was uncovered through the examination of verifiable records, contracts, and sworn testimonies from stakeholders across various ministries, departments, and agencies.

He characterized the report as a comprehensive segments-based document designed to serve the long-term interest of the state and guide the current government’s accountability drive.

The report structured its findings into five major segments, highlighting several critical areas of concern.

The commission alleged a persistent failure to comply with established procurement and financial laws during the award of major contracts.

Sworn testimonies indicated that executive authority was frequently bypassed or misused to facilitate irregular transactions.

Additionally, the inquiry probed the auctioning of state assets, including vehicles and machinery, as well as questionable land allocations in the Sokoto New City development.

Justice Pindiga noted that weak financial controls allowed significant sums to be diverted without proper documentation or institutional oversight.

In receiving the report, Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto reiterated that the inquiry was not a political vendetta but a constitutional obligation to the people of Sokoto.

He stated that the primary objective was to ascertain facts based on evidence and to restore public trust in governance structures.

To ensure a fair and transparent outcome, the Governor announced the immediate constitution of a committee to study the findings and prepare a Government White Paper.

He assured that the process would be handled with sincerity and fairness, promising that all individuals or entities found wanting in the report would be held accountable in accordance with the law.
