The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of 30-year-old Adama Hannafi from Auyakawa village in Dutse Local Government Area.
The woman, who was reportedly mentally unstable, died by suicide after hanging herself from a tree in nearby Sumore village.
Upon receiving the report, a team from the Yalwawa Police Division immediately rushed to the scene. Officers found the victim’s body hanging and carefully lowered it for examination. Police confirmed that no foul play was suspected at the scene.
The body was then transported to the Dutse General Hospital, where a medical doctor on call confirmed her death.
Preliminary investigations by the Command indicate that the deceased had been battling mental illness prior to the incident. Hannafi is survived by her husband and four children.
Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, expressed deep sadness over the unfortunate event. He used the incident to urge members of the public to show greater care and attention to relatives or neighbours who exhibit signs of mental distress.
