The Jigawa State Independent Election Commission (JISIEC) has announced that local government elections will take place on October 5, 2024.

Chairman Auwalu Muhd Harbo confirmed the commission’s readiness during a recent press briefing, stating that all necessary preparations have been finalised to ensure a smooth electoral process.

Harbo revealed that eleven political parties have expressed interest in participating in the upcoming elections.

He said, “The commission has thoroughly screened all qualified candidates who wish to contest in the local government elections.”

In preparation for the polls, Harbo stated that all sensitive and non-sensitive materials are ready for distribution. To facilitate the electoral process, JISIEC has recruited election workers, including Return Officers who will oversee voting in their respective local government areas.

These officers are tasked with recruiting additional ad hoc staff to support the election.

Also, the commission has appointed 27 supervisors to provide oversight across the state’s 27 local government areas. Harbo highlighted that a total of 14,794 personnel will be involved in the election, including 14 staff stationed at the State Collation Center to ensure the process runs smoothly.

The Chairman assured that comprehensive measures have been implemented to guarantee security and a peaceful election environment.

He also announced plans for extensive training of the recruited staff to ensure their effectiveness on election day.

“The commission is committed to conducting free, fair, and credible elections,” Harbo emphasised, reinforcing JISIEC’s dedication to upholding the integrity of the electoral process in Jigawa.
