The political landscape of Kano State is set for a dramatic transformation this Monday, January 26, 2026, as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf formally rejoins the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The move, confirmed on Sunday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, marks a significant realignment just days after the Governor resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Describing the defection as a strategic homecoming, the statement recalled that Governor Yusuf was a foundational member of the APC in 2014, where he famously won the Kano Central Senatorial primary before conceding the ticket to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Now, driven by the prevailing realities of governance and a desire for national cohesion, the Governor has chosen to return to what he describes as a familiar and structured platform for progressive governance.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that aligning with the ruling party at the center is a calculated move designed to accelerate infrastructural development and improve service delivery for the people of Kano.
He noted that rejoining the APC would strengthen cooperation with the Federal Government and enhance security coordination, effectively consolidating political stability and unity within the state.
The event is expected to be a major political spectacle as the Governor will not be crossing the carpet alone.
He is set to lead a formidable political migration, registering as an APC member alongside 22 members of the State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives, and all 44 Local Government Chairmen.
To signal the start of this new era, Governor Yusuf will also officially launch the APC e-registration exercise in the state during the ceremony.
