Insurance protection key to financing petroleum infrastructure — Expert

A member of the Board of Trustees and Vice Chairman, Crude Oil Refiners Association of Nigeria (CORAN) and Executive Director, Ikwe-Onna Refinery Ltd, Duchess Oludolapo Okulaja-Kotun has declared that insurance protection is key to financing petroleum infrastructure.

Speaking on a panel during the ongoing CORAN conference in Lagos, the oil expert said insurance and risk management have an important role to play in giving investors greater confidence to commit capital to infrastructure projects.

According to her, attention must not be placed solely on raising funds for infrastructure, but also on ensuring that the assets being financed are of the right quality and adequately protected against risks that could affect their value or operation.

“For me, the main point is the quality of the assets, the quality of the investment and the quality of the financial protection around these assets. I think these three things need to be well aligned,” she said.
