A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Olusegun Adeleke Otukoya, has been found dead along the Benin-Ore Expressway, after his corpse was discovered by local farmers.

The victim was earlier reported kidnapped on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday, August 19, 2024, by unknown gunmen while travelling alongside his son; Ooreoluwa in his private vehicle. Party members recorded that Otukoya attended a party meeting held in Ibadan earlier that evening.

Otukoya was abducted by the unknown gunmen who chased down and intercepted his vehicle. His body was discovered five days later in a bush off the Benin-Ore Expressway, sparking widespread outrage and grief among his associates and party members.

The Oyo APC has condemned the development in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare. “We condemn in strong terms the abduction and murder of one of our committed members. Otukoya was a man of peace and principle. This unfortunate event is a stark reminder of the insecurity that still plagues our roadways,” the statement read.

The party called on law enforcement agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly and emphasized the need for better protection for citizens traveling across Nigeria’s highways.

“We urge the federal government and security agencies to intensify surveillance and response efforts, particularly along key transit routes. We are calling on the Inspector General of Police to ensure a thorough investigation and swift prosecution of those responsible. This is not just about party affiliation — it is about protecting the lives of every Nigerian, regardless of their background,”
