Insecurity: Sowore advocates for drone based defence system

Human right activist and Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has proposed the deployment of a technologically advanced drone-based defence system to tackle insecurity and strengthen Nigeria’s territorial security.
Sowore, in a statement shared on his social media platform criticised what he described as an ineffective bureaucratic approach to national security, insisting that technology-driven solutions represent the future of modern defence operations.
According to him, Nigeria’s defence architecture should move away from bureaucrats sitting in air-conditioned offices writing reports while insecurity spreads across the country and embrace advanced drone systems capable of supporting military and security operations in real time.
He explained that the proposed system would focus on border surveillance, intelligence gathering, rapid response operations, and the tracking of terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and other violent criminal elements across the country.
The activist further stated that such drone systems would also provide logistical support to security personnel by delivering food, medical supplies, equipment, and communication tools to troops deployed in difficult terrains, thereby improving operational efficiency and reducing delays in response time.
Sowore stressed that the future of national security lies in “technology, efficiency, accountability, and precision,” rather than “endless bureaucracy, corruption, and excuses.”
He added that while technological innovation remains critical to addressing the nation’s security challenges, all security operations must continue to operate within the framework of the rule of law and under proper civilian oversight.
The former presidential candidate maintained that Nigeria must embrace innovation and modern security tools to effectively protect its citizens, secure its borders, and support security agencies in combating rising insecurity across the country.
