The Member representing Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency Kaduna state, Hon. Ekene Abubakar Adams has paid a courtesy visit to his Gonin Gora constituent in Chikun Local Government Area, following the recent attacks and abduction of residents in the area.

Recall that Gonin Gora commuters on Thursday, 29th February, 2024 barricaded the major Kaduna-Abuja expressway, protesting and calling on government to proffer a lasting solution to the incessant attacks on innocent citizens living in the community.

Speaking to journalists shortly after his courtesy visit over the weekend, Hon. Ekene condemned the abduction of over 250 school pupils in Kuriga, as well as the incessant attacks on Gonin Gora Communities that lead to the abduction of 13 persons.

The lawmaker, who lamented the impact of insecurity on the socio-economic activities in the region, expressed concern about the negative effects on the livelihoods of the inhabitants, emphasising that the rising insecurity has led to increased socioeconomic hardship.

Commiserating with the traditional leader of Gonin gora and the good people of the community, Ekene said, “I feel your pains. It’s painful but I want to urge you to calm down and give the government a benefit of doubt.”

He also disclosed that the state government in collaboration with relevant stakeholders are doing everything humanly possible to rescue their loved ones unhurt, stressing that heavy presence of security personnels will be felt in the community very soon.

“You have protested and the government has heard your voice. So, I want you to be patient while the government does everything possible to rescue your loved ones unhurt. I feel your pain. I know it’s not easy but I want to urge you to calm down and give us the benefit of doubt.

“I want to urge you to shun any vices that would lead to the breakdown of laws and order. Please, ensure that you do not take the law into your hands because of this menace. We will continue to support the security architecture in the state for efficient and more effective operation. This phase too shall pass,” he encouraged.

Also, in a bid to cushion the effects of economic hardship in his constituency, the Lawmaker donated 200 bags of 50kg rice and one million Naira to the Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN) and Jama’atu Nasril Islam, (JNI) in Chikun and Kajuru Local Government Areas.

Stressing the importance of peace and harmony amongst members of different faiths, he emphasised that security is everyone’s business and as such, the two major religious leaders in his constituents must embrace unity as virtue and work together in order to be able to win the war against bandits and other social vices.

In his remarks, the Chief of Gonin Gora, Mr. John Sarki said they are impressed with Hon. Ekene’s visit.

He said that they have had a series of attacks in the past five years, meanwhile no leader came in contact to commiserate with them.

He stressed that the people are delighted to see their representative coming down to their doorstep and to share in their pains.

Mr. John also called on the government to double efforts by ensuring that their loved ones are reunited with them in no distant time, adding that they do not have the capacity to meet the demands of the kidnappers.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged Nigerian workers and all citizens not to give up but remain  commited  toward a stable, united and prosperous nation, especially at this challenging time.

The party made the call  in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Debo Ologunagba in Abuja on Wednesday while congratulating Nigerian workers on the International Workers’ Day.

Ologunagba saluted Nigerian workers for remaining steadfast as real drivers of the national economy in spite the economy hardship, insecurity and other challenges facing the country.

He urged them to use their resilient spirit to resist all anti-people tendencies that seek to compromise and undermine the democratic tenets of freedom, rule of law, accountability and probity in the country.

“The PDP particularly condemns the continuing increase in electricity tariff and price of petroleum products with petrol now selling at over N1,000 per liter in some  parts of the country,” he said.

Ologunagba called on the Federal Government to review its economic policies, and take urgent action toward addressing issues that have direct bearing on  the welfare of the citizens.

The Peoples Democratic Party, on Tuesday, presented a Certificate of Return to its Ondo State governorship candidate, former Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission has set November 16, 2024, as the scheduled date for the Ondo State Governorship election.

The former Deputy Governor won the primary conducted by PDP on Thursday last week.

In his welcome remarks, the Acting National Chairman of the party, Ambassador Umar Damagum, while presenting the Certificate of Return, noted that dissenting voices marked the APC primary.

Damagum said, “At a time our opponents could not put their acts together, but we in the opposition much was expected of us and we shamed them, we produced a candidate without a dissenting voice. It’s because of what we have put in place that has made this possible.”

Describing the steps taken by the PDP to ensure a smooth primary process, Damagum stated, “During our stakeholders meeting, we agreed that all the aspirants must come from the South, and by the grace of God, that is what happened. This shows the party’s preparedness to take over Ondo State.

“Even from the last election we know that Ondo is PDP and from the stakeholders meeting and other engagements, we were able to come out with a single candidate.”

He advised Ajayi not to assume that all of his fellow aspirants have conceded to him.

Damagum stressed the significance of extending efforts to secure their support and ensure victory for the PDP in the state.

The PDP National Chairman highlighted the challenge of winning the state for the PDP and encouraged Ajayi to commence vigorous campaigning, including door-to-door outreach.

He continued, “You must work hard to make sure PDP takes Ondo State, but we will have our stakeholders meeting in the South West on Monday and work for the party.

“Unlike the other parties, we have an internal working mechanism and when we talk to ourselves we are not garrison commanders, but we engage and that is why till today PDP remains a brand. It is the only party that you will come as nobody and becomes somebody.”

In his acceptance speech, the PDP gubernatorial candidate Ajayi pledged wholehearted commitment to securing victory in the forthcoming election slated for November 16.

Ajayi highlighted that the upcoming gubernatorial election offers the PDP a distinct chance to foster genuine and enduring development for the people of Ondo, as well as for the party.

He said: “It is truly humbling, and I accept this responsibility and promise to carry out work towards winning the upcoming election with utmost dedication as we all embark on a new journey in service to our beloved Ondo State and our party, the PDP.

“This election is a defining moment for us;  It is about all of us coming together to chart a new course for Ondo State.

“It is about embracing our collective vision and aspirations for a better, more prosperous future; it, therefore, cannot be about me alone.

“The forthcoming November 16th governorship election presents us a unique opportunity to bring about real and sustainable development for the people of Ondo, and the PDP, as the largest political party in Africa, is positioned to lead this transformational change.

“The challenges we face, from poverty to unemployment, insecurity and economic hardship, require urgent and decisive action. We cannot afford to dwell on past mistakes or divisive rhetoric.

“Instead, we must focus on uniting to provide solutions that prioritize the well-being of our people and communities.

“Our vision for Ondo State is one of growth, opportunity, and equity. We envision a state where every child has access to quality education, where healthcare is affordable and accessible, and where infrastructure supports economic growth and connectivity.”
