The Kwara State Government has approved the construction of a perimeter fence around Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, as part of measures to enhance security for staff and students and curb persistent encroachment on the institution’s land.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr Jimoh Abdul Mohammed, disclosed this on Monday during a media parley organised by the Department of Strategic Communication and Media Studies, in collaboration with the Information and Publications Division of the institution.

Dr Abdul Mohammed said the approval followed repeated appeals to Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq over the growing encroachment on the Polytechnic’s land, which he described as a major challenge confronting the institution.

According to him, the perimeter fencing will not only protect the Polytechnic’s land from further encroachment but also improve the safety of lives and property of both indigenes and non-indigenes within the institution.

“The Polytechnic has been grappling with the challenge of land encroachment, which is a serious issue. Our amiable governor has graciously approved the perimeter fencing of the institution,” the Rector said.
He added that the governor had also directed that the fencing project should be carried out in a humane manner, ensuring that no existing buildings are demolished in the process.
