The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured Nigerians of its preparedness for the 2027 General Election, despite delays in the passage of the amended Electoral Act.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), made this disclosure on Wednesday during the Commission’s first quarterly consultative meeting with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Abuja.

He stated that while recommendations have been submitted to the National Assembly, the Commission is currently operating within the framework of the existing law.

Amupitan urged CSOs to mobilize residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the Area Council elections scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026.

The PVC distribution exercise is set to conclude on February 10.

Providing an update on the FCT polls, the Chairman noted that 1,680,315 registered voters across six Area Councils will participate.

He confirmed that non-sensitive materials have been delivered, and a mock accreditation exercise is scheduled for Saturday, February 7, to test the BVAS devices.

Looking toward 2027, Amupitan announced plans for a nationwide voter revalidation exercise.

“A credible register of voters remains the bedrock of transparent elections,” he stated, urging the National Assembly to expedite the legal amendments to ensure a seamless electoral cycle.
