IGP Disu vows offensive against bandits, condoles family of fallen officers

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Riwan Disu, has vowed that the police will launch a full scale offensive against criminal networks.

Expressing concern over an emerging trend of bandits planting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on major highways, IGP Disu declared that the police, in close collaboration with sister security agencies, will not relent until the perpetrators are either brought to justice or eliminated.

IGP Disu made this known at the funeral prayers of three gallant police officers from the anti-bomb squad who lost their lives in the line of duty in Zamafara.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday evening along the Anka-Bagega axis as the specialized team was actively attempting to detonate an IED planted by suspected terrorists.

This devastating loss comes barely 48 hours after the exact same anti-bomb unit successfully detected and safely detonated another highway IED along the Kunguro axis in the Safi local government area.

Accompanied by senior police officials and representatives of the Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, IGP Disu commiserated with the families of the fallen heroes.

Speaking, he urged members of the force not to be dispirited by the loss, emphasizing that the supreme sacrifice made by the officers in confronting criminal elements would not be in vain.

Condemning the evolving tactics of the bandits, he emphasized that the government forces intend to shift from a defensive posture to a full-scale offensive against the criminal networks that have caused widespread hardship and taken innocent lives across the region.
