The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Wednesday led a walkathon in Abuja as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Week.
The exercise, which commenced at the Force Headquarters and ended at the Unity Fountain, attracted participation from senior officers, rank-and-file personnel, and members of the public.

Organised under the theme “Together We Walk, Together We Secure,” the walkathon highlights the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening community engagement and promoting shared responsibility in ensuring public safety.
The IGP, accompanied by top-ranking officers, including the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, emphasised that effective policing thrives on collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.
He noted that initiatives such as the walkathon are vital in building trust, fostering mutual understanding, and reinforcing partnerships necessary for maintaining peace and security.

The walkathon forms part of a series of activities scheduled nationwide to commemorate the annual Police Week, with similar events taking place across various Commands and formations of the Force.
Police authorities stated that the initiative is designed not only to promote the physical fitness of personnel but also to deepen public engagement and strengthen the bond between the police and the communities they serve.
