Inspector-General of Police, Dr Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Police Benjamin Hundeyin as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).

The announcement was made in a statement on Thursday by the outgoing spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who described his successor as “a well-qualified officer with solid academic and professional credentials.”

Adejobi stated: “The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, NPM, Ph.D., has approved the appointment of CSP Benjamin Hundeyin as the new Force Public Relations Officer.

“CSP Hundeyin holds a BA (Hons) in English Language from Lagos State University and an MSc in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan. He also obtained a Certificate in Civil-Military Coordination from the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Training Centre, Jaji, Kaduna State.

“He is an Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), a Member of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA), and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM).”

Detailing his professional background, Adejobi noted: “A seasoned communicator, CSP Hundeyin has served as the Police Public Relations Officer at Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, was part of the Nigerian contingent to the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan (UNAMID) in 2020, and held the role of Administration Officer at the Force Public Relations Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja. Until this appointment, he was the Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police Command.”

Adejobi added that the Inspector-General had tasked Hundeyin with strengthening public trust in the Nigeria Police Force, leveraging his extensive communications and security expertise to reinforce positive engagement with citizens.

The Force confirmed Adejobi’s redeployment as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations at the Delta State Police Command.

Announcing his new posting on X, Adejobi wrote: “The posting reflects the confidence of the Force leadership in my extensive experience, professionalism, and ability to enhance operational strategies within the Command.”

His departure as the Police Force’s chief spokesperson comes at a time of heightened scrutiny over law enforcement practices across the country, particularly following criticism of misconduct involving security operatives.
