Igbinedion advises graduating students to improve on national development

Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, the Chancellor, Igbinedion University Okada (IUO) has advised graduating students of the university to work hard to improve on the development of the country.

Igbinedion gave the advice during the 18th Convocation of the university in Okada on Saturday.

“I congratulate all graduating students of this university, I commend your spirit of perseverance and I urge you to go out there and improve on the country’s development.

“I urge you to be employers of labour and make this great university proud,” he said.

He said that the university was among few universities in the country with uninterrupted power supply, which had positively affected the performance of the students.

Dr (Mrs) Ajoritsedere Awosika, the Chairman of Access Bank Plc also advised the graduating students to take a cue from the chancellor of the university who started the great institution to where it was presently.

“I implore you as tomorrow and future leaders to emulate   the likes of Chief Igbinedion, Warren Buffet, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg.

“To do that, you have to start something or join in building the system.

“You were able to attend Igbinedion University because someone started it.

“Start that course, start that project, start that business, learn that skill, reskill and go for it,” Awosika said.

Prof. Sheikh Abdullah, the Pro Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council of IUO congratulated parents and guardians, who toiled day and night to see their children through the university.

“Going forward, permit me to announce that the university has since commenced the expansion of its facilities and capacities to accommodate more students for quality and competitive education,” he said.

Sheikh said the university enrolled students from the 36 states of the federation.

He said the university was escalating its drive consistently with the desire to extend the frontiers of knowledge in a globalised economy.

Earlier, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, the Vice Chancellor of IUO said that university had since inception graduated over 15,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students.

“At this convocation ceremony, another batch of 611 students comprising 553 undergraduates and 58 post graduates will be added to the list.

“They spread across the seven colleges of the university; of this number, 16 students graduated with first class,177 with second class upper and 241 with second class lower division,” he said.

According to him, IUO graduates are the testament of the university’s quality educational service delivery, apart from the numerous firsts in the various disciplines.

He said that a first class law graduate of the university, Prof, Sunday Olawuyi also made first class at the Law School and had become the first graduate from a private university to become Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
