The Akwa Ibom State Government has taken a significant step towards the actualisation of the Ibom Deep Seaport project by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Interaf Group Consortium.

Governor Umo Eno, speaking during the signing ceremony at the Government House, Uyo, on Monday, reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to delivering the critical infrastructure, which is poised to boost the state’s economy and transform the region.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, Governor Eno described the project as a necessity for the people of Akwa Ibom.

He urged the consortium to work closely with the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP) to ensure the timely execution of the project.

The Governor commended Interaf Group for its interest in the development and specifically lauded former Minister of Petroleum, Atuekong Don Etiebet, for being part of the team working towards the realization of the facility.

He emphasized that his administration is fully committed to providing the necessary support to keep the project on course.

In his remarks, Atuekong Etiebet commended Governor Eno for his visionary leadership and the remarkable transformation of the state.

He noted that the signing of the MoU marks a significant milestone in the development of the project, which was first conceived in 2007.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Interaf Group Consortium, Engr. Ezinwa Chinedu Ibekwe, expressed gratitude to the state government for the confidence reposed in the company.

He assured the Governor of the consortium’s readiness to deliver on its mandate, promising a collaborative approach to ensure success.

The high point of the event was the official signing of the MoU, which outlines the modalities and preliminary framework for collaboration regarding the development and operations of both the Deep Seaport and the Ibom Industrial City.

The ceremony was witnessed by the State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Hon. Uko Udom (SAN), the Managing Director of AKICORP, Pastor Imo-Abasi Jacob, and other senior government officials.
