Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has paid glowing tribute to former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), describing him as one of Nigeria’s most accomplished and dedicated leaders.

Jonathan made the remarks on Sunday in Minna, Niger State, during a visit to Babangida’s residence to honour his 84th birthday.

Speaking with journalists afterwards, the former president said General Babangida’s role in strengthening national unity and governance had created a legacy that continues to endure.

“Since Nigeria’s independence, the country has produced several leaders, yet General Babangida distinguishes himself as a leader truly committed to the progress of the nation,” Jonathan stated.

He commended IBB’s leadership approach, observing that his stewardship as a military head of state reflected an unwavering devotion to the unity and advancement of Nigeria.

“He gave his best in service, and that is why his home has become a place of pilgrimage of sorts, attracting visitors from across society,” Jonathan remarked.

The former president also described Babangida as a leader without sectional bias, stressing that he treated all Nigerians with equal regard, regardless of ethnic or regional affiliation.

“He embraces the nation as his own and treats everyone with fairness. That is why his respect cuts across the length and breadth of Nigeria,” he said, expressing hope that the younger generation would continue to learn from Babangida’s vast experience and seek his guidance.

Earlier in the day, prayers were offered at the General’s Uphill residence in Minna as part of the birthday celebration.
