I have made greater sacrifices for Nigeria than Obi — Adeyanju

Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has taken a swipe at former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over what he described as fundamental differences between them.

Adeyanju made the remarks while comparing his record of activism and personal sacrifices for Nigeria with Obi’s political career.

According to him, his years of involvement in human rights advocacy and struggles for democratic values have earned him a distinct place in the country’s political history.

“Peter Obi doesn’t like me, and I don’t like him either. I am bigger than Peter Obi because I’ve made more sacrifices for Nigeria,” Adeyanju said.

The activist questioned Obi’s contributions to the country’s democratic development, particularly in comparison to the sacrifices he claimed to have made as a human rights advocate.

He challenged the former governor to demonstrate the sacrifices he has made for the nation and his contributions to the democratic freedoms Nigerians currently enjoy.

Adeyanju argued that his involvement in human rights campaigns has exposed him to numerous struggles in defense of citizens’ rights and democratic principles.

He further questioned Obi’s understanding of democracy, suggesting that the political leader has benefited from democratic freedoms without making comparable sacrifices.

“Has he ever made any sacrifice for the country? What does he know about the democracy that he is enjoying?” Adeyanju asked.

The remarks are expected to generate significant public interest given Obi’s political influence and Adeyanju’s longstanding involvement in public advocacy.

Adeyanju has remained outspoken on political and social issues, while Obi continues to be a prominent figure in Nigeria’s opposition politics following his performance in the 2023 presidential election.
