A Nigerian man has reportedly initiated divorce proceedings against his wife after discovering that she is attracted to women, with sources stating he felt deceived about the nature of their marriage.
Jennifer Obule, originally from Delta State, Nigeria, married Ehiedu Kpamichukwu on 7 September 2023. Kpamichukwu later travelled to the United Kingdom as a student, with Jennifer subsequently joining him as his dependant.
According to a source familiar with the situation, the marriage began to deteriorate after Kpamichukwu discovered his wife’s sexuality. The source said the revelation left him furious, believing he had been misled both before and throughout the marriage.
The couple subsequently separated, and Kpamichukwu is reportedly pursuing divorce proceedings through a lawyer in Lagos. The source also stated that the husband demanded Jennifer repay the money he claims to have spent on their wedding and on relocating her to the United Kingdom.
The situation has reportedly escalated beyond the couple, with members of the husband’s family allegedly becoming involved and issuing threats against Jennifer following the disclosure of her sexuality. The source added that the husband informed Jennifer’s father about her sexual orientation. Her father reportedly responded by disowning her, leaving her without the familial support she previously relied upon.
According to the source, Jennifer’s mother had been her primary pillar of support before her death in 2022, which made the subsequent family rift particularly devastating. The source noted that Jennifer has since experienced severe emotional distress and had previously received mental health support following her mother’s death.
The dispute has now culminated in a complete marital breakdown, marked by ongoing divorce proceedings, the husband’s demands for financial reimbursement, and allegations of threats from his relatives following the disclosure of Jennifer’s sexuality.
