A woman, Ifeoma Okafor, was arraigned on Friday before a Senior Magistrate’s Court in Gwagwalada, Federal Capital Territory, for allegedly threatening to kill her husband during a domestic altercation.
The defendant, who resides behind ECWA Goodnews Church in Gwagwalada, is facing two counts of criminal intimidation and mischief, offences contrary to Sections 396 and 326 of the Penal Code.
According to the prosecution counsel, Abdulahi Tanko, the case was reported to the police on 6 June by the complainant, Mr Paul Okafor. The report followed a dispute between the couple at their residence.
Tanko informed the court that on 1 June, the defendant allegedly knocked on her husband’s door, and upon his opening it, she was found holding a knife. She reportedly threatened to kill him and also threatened to harm herself in the course of the incident.
The prosecutor further alleged that in the heat of the altercation, the defendant damaged one of the window louvers in the house, although the monetary value of the damage had yet to be assessed.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Presiding Senior Magistrate Munir Sani granted her bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties. The first surety must be a biological relative of the defendant, reside within the jurisdiction of the court, and present a valid National Identity Card or driver’s licence.
The second surety is required to provide a bank statement reflecting a balance equivalent to the bail amount.
The case has been adjourned to 16 July 2025 for hearing.
