Host Community urges UNIUYO VC to grant admission, employment quotas

The village head of Anua Offot, Chief Linus Inyang, has called for the provision of admission and employment quotas for host communities of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) to foster a sense of inclusiveness and belonging.

Speaking with journalists, Chief Inyang commended the Federal Government for appointing the university’s first indigenous Vice Chancellor.

He noted that the emergence of Professor Chris Ekong fulfills a long-standing yearning of the Uyo people to see a local academic lead the institution.

While congratulating Prof. Ekong, Chief Inyang described him as a square peg in a square hole who is expected to add significant value to the prestigious university.

He acknowledged that the journey to the Vice Chancellorship was long and meticulous, praising Prof. Ekong for overcoming numerous hurdles and oppositions to reach the pinnacle of the institution’s administration.

The village head expressed confidence that under Prof. Ekong’s leadership, the university would become more productive and progressive.

He urged the new Vice Chancellor to apply his vast knowledge and experience to fulfill his development agenda for the state’s apex center of learning.

He also extended his appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Universities Commission (NUC), and the University’s Governing Council for the appointment.
