A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Tajudeen Kolawole Fantola, was on Wednesday, 13th March, 2024 killed by kidnappers disguised as soldiers in Kogi state.
The attack which occurred at the outskirts of Okene resulted in the death of Alhaji Fantola, some of his party members and other travellers who were also on their way to Abuja.
The heavily armed kidnappers who were dressed as soldiers had ambushed several vehicles, which included Alhaji Fantola’s convoy, along the Okene-Abuja road, and in the process shot at some travellers who attempted to escape either in their vehicles or on foot.
The PDP chieftain was shot in the chest and he died on the spot, while his youngest son, Mubarak Fantola and some other travellers were taken hostage and marched into the forest along the road.
Recall that Alhaji Fantola, a political rival of Ibadan political juggernaut, the late Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu had been a victim of several attacks by politicians and gunmen alike in the past.
