Gunmen abduct two Councillors, Imam in Zamfara

Gunmen abducted two councillors and a cleric in Tsauni community, Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, the police have confirmed.

The victims councillors representing Gidan Gona and Tsibiri wards in Maradun LGA, as well as the Imam of Tsauni community were seized in front of their homes around 7:00 p.m., shortly after evening prayers, according to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar.

Abubakar said police operatives had been deployed to the area and efforts were underway to rescue the abductees. He urged residents to support security agencies with timely information.

The Chairman of Maradun LGA, Sanusi Gamagiwa, however, disclosed that six persons were initially abducted, but three were later released, leaving the two councillors and the Imam in captivity. He added that the kidnappers had yet to make any demands.

Tsauni community, located behind the FRSC Zamfara Sector Command in Gusau, has in recent years sheltered internally displaced persons fleeing bandit attacks from neighbouring communities.
