Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has officially flagged off the N4 billion Filin Polo to Ring Road Asphalt Concrete project, a 4-kilometre urban renewal initiative aimed at addressing poor infrastructure, traffic congestion, and security challenges in one of the city’s most neglected inner-city communities.
In a statement signed by Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Katsina State.
The statement reads partly: “This project is not just a road; it is an investment in the quality of life of our people. The single-carriageway road, which will be equipped with solar-powered streetlights, is designed to transform Filin Polo—one of Katsina’s most neglected inner-city communities.
“The area has long been plagued by poor road access, congestion, inadequate drainage and security concerns, stressing that the project would reverse years of neglect and unlock fresh economic opportunities for residents.
“The project was awarded to Mothercat Limited at the cost of ₦4bn, with a completion period of 12 months, adding that the state government had already released a 40 per cent mobilisation fee to ensure immediate commencement and timely delivery.
“Compensation will be paid to property owners affected by the road alignment, noting that assessments had been completed in line with due process and fairness.”
Governor Radda described the groundbreaking ceremony as a symbol of his administration’s determination to foster inclusive development, urging residents of Filin Polo and neighbouring communities to cooperate fully with contractors to ensure smooth execution. He also warned that the project would be closely monitored to maintain quality standards and adherence to timelines.
The Commissioner for Works and Housing, Engr. (Dr.) Sani Magaji Ingawa, said the road upgrade is part of deliberate efforts to expand infrastructure, improve residents’ quality of life, and stimulate urban renewal.
“This corridor will attract investments, raise property values, and create a cleaner, safer environment for thousands of residents,” Dr. Ingawa noted.
The Commissioner highlighted that the project includes drainage systems, solar-powered streetlights, walkways, and traffic markings. He further explained that the initiative would open up Filin Polo for new development, ease congestion, and enhance security, particularly at night.
Hon. Isah Miqdad, Chairman of Katsina Local Government, thanked Governor Radda on behalf of the community, describing the project as evidence of the administration’s commitment to their welfare.
“Our people appreciate this development and the attention given to this area,” he said, pledging full community support.
Other dignitaries who attended the flag-off included the Commissioners for Water Resources and Lands and Physical Planning, Dr. Bishir Gambo Saulawa and Dr. Faisal Kaita, the Member representing Katsina LGA in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Aliyu Abubakar Albaba, and the Chairman of Continental Computers, Alhaji Salisu Mamman Kadandani.
