Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has formally recruited 4,315 former BESDA volunteer teachers into permanent and pensionable teaching positions, a move aimed at strengthening the state’s education sector.
This announcement was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, on Friday in Kano.
The governor personally presented appointment letters to the newly recruited teachers at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium, urging them to uphold dedication, integrity, and character-building in their pupils.
He said: “These appointments build on our previous recruitment drives of 5,500 teachers in 2023, 5,632 in 2024, and 4,000 in May 2025. All of these individuals were absorbed from the BESDA voluntary teaching scheme into the state’s teaching workforce.”
In a further bid to strengthen education delivery, the governor announced the recruitment of an additional 2,616 teachers.
He also inaugurated a N200 million vehicle loan scheme, approved the distribution of 444 motorcycles and 300 computers to enhance school monitoring and evaluation.
Yusuf also directed the reopening of Shehu Minjibir Boarding Primary School with 180 pupils, upgraded another school in Ungogo Local Government Area into a boarding facility, and engaged 17,000 watchmen across schools in the state.
“Our education reforms are yielding tangible results. Kano State’s historic achievement as the best-performing state in the 2025 NECO examination is proof that our consistent commitment to rescuing and reforming education is paying off,” he added.
