Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, has declared Governor Umo Eno as the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, confirming his recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Onanuga made the statement in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, following a visit by Governor Eno and Senate President Godswill Akpabio to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Akwa Ibom Governor, Umo Eno, and Senate President, Godswill Akpabio visited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday. Governor Eno is the APC leader in his state,” Onanuga wrote.

Governor Eno, who was elected under the PDP platform, has in recent weeks aligned more closely with the APC-led federal government. His visit to President Tinubu, alongside Akpabio, further fueled speculation about his full political transition, now confirmed by the presidency.

His emergence as APC leader in Akwa Ibom signals a major political shift in the state and could reshape party dynamics ahead of future elections.
