Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has paid glowing tribute to the late Dr Solomon Ehigiator Arase, former Inspector-General of Police, describing him as a distinguished son of Edo State and a patriotic Nigerian whose contributions to national security will be celebrated for generations.

Arase, who passed away over the weekend, served as Nigeria’s 18th Inspector-General of Police and was widely admired for his leadership in driving reforms in community policing and criminal justice administration.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo praised Arase as a man of honour and integrity who rose to the pinnacle of his career through dedication, excellence, and a tireless commitment to public service.

“Arase’s contributions to the Nigeria Police Force and the country’s security architecture will be remembered for a long time, and his legacy will continue to inspire many,” the governor’s statement read.

Okpebholo recalled that Arase’s tenure as Inspector-General was defined by key reforms, a culture of professionalism, and a deep commitment to community policing. He remarked that his efforts left a profound impact on generations of young police officers and future leaders in law enforcement.

The governor offered prayers for the peaceful repose of Arase’s soul and asked God to strengthen his family during this period of mourning. He expressed solace in the fact that the late former police chief lived a purposeful life and left an enduring imprint on Nigeria’s security sector.
