Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, on Friday led an illustrious delegation of dignitaries, including the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, to honour the 90th birthday celebration of His Royal Highness (HRH) Jonathan Coastman Alagba, the Amananaowei of Ikibiri community.
The event, held at the Pees Hub event centre in Yenagoa, was a grand gathering of traditional rulers, political leaders, captains of industry, and other distinguished Bayelsans who came out in full force to pay homage to the revered nonagenarian.
Addressing the audience, Governor Diri extolled the values of honouring elders, stressing that such traditions serve to reinforce the moral foundation of society.
“For us as a State, we will continue to celebrate our fathers and our elders who have brought up their children in the way that they should grow and that they will not depart from it,” the governor said.
He further added: “Daddy, on behalf of your government and the good people of Bayelsa State, I say happy birthday. Once again, I want to appreciate all of you who have turned out in your numbers, from the oil and gas industry, the states and the Traditional Rulers Council, and all of us who have come to honour the age of our father.”
Among the dignitaries present were the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, members of the State Assembly, Executive Council officials, and respected traditional rulers including the Amayanabo of Twon-Brass and first military Governor of Old Rivers State, King Alfred Diete-Spiff, and the Chairman of the Bayelsa State Traditional Rulers Council, HRM King Bubaraye Dakolo.
The celebration was marked by cultural displays, tributes, and goodwill messages, underscoring the deep respect and admiration for HRH Alagba, who continues to be a pillar of wisdom and guidance within his community.
