The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ondo State Command, has trained and inducted 185 special marshals as road safety advocates and managers in the state.
Dr Samuel Ibitoye, FRSC State Sector Commander, who inducted the newly-enlisted special marshals on Thursday in Akure, said the induction was to get them onboard, and for participation in road safety management.
Ibitoye said that special marshals were an established act under “the voluntarism aspect” of the road safety management to enable people contributed their quota to the safety of humanity.
According to him, everybody in the country needs to participate in road safety including old, young, academic, illiterate, and even politicians to ensure that when crashes occur, death is not recorded.
”As a sector commander of FRSC in Ondo State, I induct you one and all as special marshals
“Henceforth, you are to exercise all the responsibilities and to enjoy the power and privileges accruable to special marshals in FRSC. You are coming in to give your resources and time to ensure that the roads are safe and people do not die unnecessarily on Nigerian roads.
“We are expecting the newly enlisted special marshals to go for enforcement, collaboration, and even use their profession to enhance safety on Nigerian roads,” Ibitoye said.
He, therefore, called for more commitment and urged them to be good advocates of the road management for the safety of all Nigerians.
Responding, Mr Adeoba Olatunde, State Special Marshals Coordinator, said it behoved on the enlisted special marshals to embark on rescue missions and ensure that roads were accident free.
“This is a voluntary assignment. They should not be expecting any gain or reward because what they are doing is to assist humanity. They should do it as if is their personal assignment and not relent on their efforts and make sure that our roads are accident free,” Olatunde said.
Mrs Funmi Johnson, one of the inducted special marshals, appreciated FRSC for the induction, and said she joined to contribute her quota for the service of humanity.
“I was a victim, I lost my parents as a result of reckless driving on the part of the driver. So, I joined the special marshals to educate and enlighten people on how they can drive and manage crashes on the roads. Enlighten people and talk to them so that we can all save souls on the roads,” she said.
The oath of office was administered by Barr. Buchi Nwanolue, Sector Legal Officer, FRSC, Akure, Ondo State.
