The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has convicted 34 out of 35 traffic offenders arraigned before a mobile court along the Calabar–Ikom Highway in Cross River State, reinforcing its commitment to road safety and zero tolerance for corruption.
The court session, which addressed 70 traffic-related offences, was conducted under the Cross River Sector Command. Only one driver was discharged, while others faced penalties for a wide range of violations.
According to Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the offences included attempts to bribe FRSC officers, failure to install speed limiters, and violations involving driver’s licenses, vehicle documentation, and seatbelt use.
“Out of the 70 offences handled, 12 motorists attempted to bribe operatives a development the Corps views with serious concern,” Ogungbemide stated. Additional offences recorded were driver’s license violations (14), vehicle license infractions (9), lack of seatbelt use (8), overloading (7), number plate and light violations (3 each), and two cases each of tyre and fire extinguisher offences. One case each was recorded for obstruction, failure to move over, and caution sign neglect.
FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, commended the court exercise, describing it as a firm step toward restoring order and professionalism on the roads.
“This is a clear message that the era of impunity is over. Road safety is a collective responsibility, and the law will be enforced without fear or favour,” he said.
He emphasized that no one would be spared the consequences of violating traffic laws, regardless of status. Mohammed urged Nigerians to report any corrupt practices involving FRSC personnel through the agency’s mobile app, the 122 toll-free line, or at the nearest FRSC office.
He also called on motorists to obey traffic laws, keep vehicle documents up to date, avoid bribery, and prioritize safety on the roads.
The FRSC, he added, is deepening collaborations with state governments to improve road infrastructure and promote public awareness in the fight against traffic violations and road crashes.
