Four men, three kids dead in Osun road accident

…Adeleke condoles families

No fewer than seven people have been reportedly killed in a multiple road accident that occurred on Tuesday along West Bypass in Osogbo, Osun State.

The accident involved a blue colour commercial Mazda BUS with number plate registration RBC15 ZN; a yellow colour TVS Commercial Tricycle with registered number plate RLG 898 QE and a green colour commercial Bajaj Boxer motorcycle.

According to the state public enlightenment officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), SRC Agnes Ogungbemi, the casualties include four adult males, two male children and a female child.

Ogungbemi added that four of the deceased died on the spot while three gave up the ghost at the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, where they were rushed to for treatment by operatives of the Nigeria Police and the Osun Emergency Medical and Ambulance Systems (OSEMSAS).

She however added that one female child out of the eight victims of the accident is still alive and receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, Governor Ademola Adeleke has expressed sadness over the death of some school students and another citizen from a fatal accident that occurred in Osogbo.

A statement signed by governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed expressed deep pain at the disturbing event, conveying the heartfelt sympathy of the Government and the people of Osun state to the families of those touched by the incident.

Adeleke reiterated the call on users of road to exercise caution and adhere strictly to safety guidance on roads, saying the State Government under him will work with relevant authorities to make our road more safer for road users.

“I am distraught to hear about the terrible accident that resulted in the death of five people in Osogbo due to a fatal accident while five other people sustained injuries of varying degrees. It is really painful for me, and I want to use this avenue to commiserate with the families of the deceased”

“It is my prayer that God Almighty repose their souls and give their loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses occasioned by their death. As a government, we will give the needed support to the injured and pray for their quick recoveries,” the Governor noted.
