Former INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega loses Wife

Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega, the wife of the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and former Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Prof. Attahiru Jega, has passed away.

In a statement shared on its official social media page, Bayero University announced, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. With total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing of Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega.”

The institution disclosed that her Janazah (funeral) prayer will take place immediately after Zuhr at the National Mosque, Abuja, on Sunday, 5th April 2026.

Offering prayers for the deceased, BUK stated, “May Allah grant her Aljannatul Firdaus and forgive her shortcomings. May He also grant the family the strength and patience to bear this loss. Ameen.”

Professor Jega served as the INEC chairman between 2010 and 2015, overseeing two Nigerian general election cycles.
