FIFA ban England’s Jarell Quansah for two games

England defender Jarell Quansah has been handed a two-match suspension by FIFA following his direct red card during the national team’s tense 3–2 victory over Mexico in the World Cup Round of 16.

The Bayer Leverkusen center-back was sent off in the second half at the Estadio Azteca after a video assistant referee (VAR) review upgraded his challenge on Mexico’s Jesús Gallardo to a straight red for serious foul play.

While the English Football Association (FA) was looking into options for a potential appeal, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee formally announced the decision on Thursday, ruling out any immediate reversal.

As a result, Quansah will serve an immediate suspension that rules him out of England’s upcoming quarter-final showdown against Norway in Miami this Saturday, as well as a potential semi-final match should Thomas Tuchel’s squad progress.
