FG to publish scorecards of GenCos, DisCos

The Federal Government has reveaoed that it will begin publicly publishing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and operational scorecards for all Generation Companies (GenCos) and Distribution Companies (DisCos) across the country.

The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe made this known while speaking at the Q2 2026 Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) Stakeholders Meeting organized by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

Speaking, the Minister stated that a performance-driven culture is impossible without total data visibility. By stripping operators of their bureaucratic anonymity, the initiative signals a shift from internal regulatory policing to data-driven public accountability, ensuring that operational excellence is openly recognized while systemic underperformance remains fully visible to consumers and investors alike.

He noted that the decision to publicize operator metrics tackles a deep-seated trust deficit between Nigerian citizens and utility providers.

For decades, the structural inefficiencies, technical breakdowns, and financial parameters of the power value chain have been shielded from public view, forcing consumers to rely heavily on political explanations during widespread outages.

By weaponizing objective data, the Ministry of Power intends to inject market discipline directly into the sector. Access to these scorecards will empower civil society, industrial consumers, and the media to demand tangible consequences for operators failing to meet standardized baselines.
