FG flags off training for 5,000 youths in smart meter installation

The Federal Government has flagged off the first cohort of the Power Force programme, a workforce development initiative under the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI) aimed at training 5,000 young Nigerians in smart meter installation.

The programme was launched in Abuja on Wednesday as part of efforts to develop a skilled workforce to support the nationwide rollout of smart meters and create employment opportunities for young people.

According to EnergyReformsNG, the initiative will equip participants with the technical skills needed to accelerate smart meter deployment across Nigeria’s electricity sector while building the manpower required to improve electricity metering.

The organisers described the commencement of the first cohort as a significant step towards empowering young Nigerians with in-demand technical skills and supporting sustainable growth in the power sector.

Nigeria’s electricity sector continues to face a significant metering gap, leaving many consumers on estimated billing. 

The Federal Government has introduced several initiatives, including the PMI, to increase meter deployment and improve transparency in electricity billing.
