The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Eid al-Adha celebration.
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made this known in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
The statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani noted that the government’s recognition of the spiritual heritage of millions of Nigerian Muslims as they join the global Islamic community in celebrating the occasion.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended his congratulations to the Muslim faithful across Nigeria and the diaspora.
He emphasized that Eid al-Adha carries profound spiritual significance, centered on the core values of sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for fellow human beings.
The Federal Government also urged Nigerians to utilize the holiday period for reflection and prayer, asking for guidance as the nation continues its efforts to secure peace, safety, and economic progress for all citizens.
The statement concluded with a message wishing all Muslims a peaceful, blessed, and happy celebration in the spirit of unity, national brotherhood, and shared humanity.
