The Federal Government has approved the payment of an additional ₦4.04 billion for the payment of severance benefits owed 600 former workers of Nigeria Airways Limited.

According to a statement issued on Monday by Maryann Duke, Senior Special Assistant on Communications and Press Secretary to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, the latest disbursement covers Batches 010 and 011.

The new tranche builds upon a previous ₦18 billion payment disbursed in September, which successfully settled the entitlements of 2,700 former workers across the initial nine batches.

The financial breakdowns for the current release indicate a total gross severance package of ₦4,251,043,000.19, which, after statutory deductions amounting to ₦212,552,150.01, brings the total net amount released for payment to ₦4,038,490,850.18.

The Minister emphasized that the funds are being distributed through a batch-by-batch process anchored on rigorous record verification.

He explained that this strategy is designed to ensure that approved entitlements successfully reach rightful beneficiaries while simultaneously safeguarding public funds.

Acknowledging the decades-long wait endured by the former employees and their families following the liquidation of Nigeria Airways, the government reiterated its resolve to resolve all legitimate outstanding claims through an orderly and transparent framework.

The Minister added that it will continue supporting the implementation of government financial obligations in strict adherence to established procedures.
