A former lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, has been named the factional Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

His emergence follows the dissolution of the Adolphus Wabara-led BoT by a faction loyal to the party’s new Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Abdulrahman Muhammad.

The development was contained in a communiqué issued on Friday, after the inaugural and emergency meeting of the newly reconstituted board held in Abuja.

According to the communiqué, Hon. Isah Dansidi was also elected as Secretary of the board, replacing Senator Ahmed Makarfi.

The BoT explained that both Wabara and Makarfi could no longer retain their positions because they had “publicly taken sides” in the ongoing intra-party crisis, a move the faction said eroded the neutrality and moral authority expected of the board.

“Accordingly, the Board unanimously approved the election of Senator Mao Ohuabunwa and Hon. Isah Dansidi as the Chairman and Secretary of the newly constituted Board of Trustees, respectively,” the communiqué read.

Reaffirming its loyalty to the party, the board said the PDP remains one indivisible, united, and democratic family, committed to the ideals of justice, equity, and progress.

On the proposed national convention, the BoT threw its weight behind calls for a postponement until the Court of Appeal rules on the case challenging the Federal High Court’s judgment affecting the party’s leadership.

“The judgment of the Federal High Court remains superior and weightier in law than the interim order of the Oyo State High Court,” the communiqué stated.

It added that prudence and respect for judicial processes demanded that the convention be delayed “until the appellate court delivers its decision.”
