…Promises to tackle insecurity, revive agriculture in state
Former Attorney General of the Federation and Ex-Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Kebbi State.
Speaking in an interview with DCL Hausa on Monday, Malami expressed confidence in his political support across the state and committed to restoring security and revitalising Kebbi’s struggling agricultural sector.
“INEC guidelines don’t permit mobilisation yet, but when the time comes, you will see that the people of Kebbi are with us. I have agreed to contest, and there is no retreat. God willing, we are going to win. We won’t disappoint those who believe in us,” he said.
Malami criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of worsening insecurity and leaving farmers vulnerable to bandit attacks that have forced many off their land, negatively impacting food production.
“Today, rice mills that operated for two decades have shut down because of bad policies that favour foreign companies,” he said, blaming both state and federal governments for “negligence and policy failure.”
He stressed that his campaign is driven by a commitment to “salvage Kebbi State”, rebuild the agricultural sector, enhance security, and protect residents’ welfare, describing his ambition as a “rescue mission, not for personal gain.”
In July, Malami resigned from the APC and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He said the move followed “wide consultations and deep personal reflection,” motivated by concern for citizens’ hardships rather than personal ambition or resentment.
