Equities market gains N822bn as NGX All-Share Index rises 0.92% in one week 

..As Insurance stocks trade 481m shares

The Nigerian Exchange Ltd. (NGX) closed the week on a positive note as the All-Share Index (ASI) and market capitalisation appreciated by 0.92 per cent each, finishing at 141,845.35 points and N89.744 trillion, compared with 140,545.69 points and N88.922 trillion recorded last week.

As a result, equities investors earned a total of N822 billion during the week under review.

Despite the broad market rally, some sectoral indices posted declines. 

The NGX CG, NGX Premium, NGX Banking, NGX Pension, NGX Insurance, NGX-AFR Bank Value, NGX AFR Div Yield, NGX MERI Growth, and NGX MERI Value indices fell by 1.04 per cent, 1.14 per cent, 2.57 per cent, 0.15 per cent, 4.67 per cent, 3.66 per cent, 1.74 per cent, 0.80 per cent and 3.73 per cent respectively. 

The NGX ASeM index closed flat.

In terms of market activity, investors traded a total of 2.735 billion shares valued at N85.197 billion in 127,284 deals,  lower than the 3.188 billion shares worth N99.685 billion exchanged in 132,711 deals the previous week.

The Financial Services Industry led activity with 1.909 billion shares worth N37.834 billion traded in 56,026 deals, accounting for 69.79 per cent and 44.41 per cent of the total equity turnover volume and value respectively. 

The ICT industry followed with 184.870 million shares worth N6.189 billion, while the Services industry ranked third with 176.506 million shares worth N813.252 million.

Abbey Mortgage Bank, Fidelity Bank, and United Bank for Africa emerged as the most active stocks, jointly accounting for 875.822 million shares valued at N16.417 billion in 11,389 deals, contributing 32.02 per cent and 19.27 per cent of the total turnover volume and value.

On the price movement chart, 40 equities gained compared to 70 in the previous week, while 41 equities declined, up from 22 previously. Sixty-six equities closed flat.

Top gainers included Guinness Nigeria (+28.60 per cent), Multiverse Mining (+21.30 per cent), Eunisell Interlinked (+20.28 per cent), Etranzact International (+11.71 per cent), and Chellaram (+9.77 per cent). 

The top losers were Omatek Ventures, Cornerstone Insurance, Secure Electronic Technology, Royal Exchange, and United Bank for Africa.

Meanwhile, the NGX announced the listing of NGX30H6 and NGXPENSIONH6 Futures Contracts on Monday, September 15, 2025. 

It also disclosed that Chams Holding Company Plc secured SEC approval to extend its ongoing Rights Issue involving 2.348 billion ordinary shares at N1.70 each by 10 working days, with the new closing date now set for Friday, September 26, 2025.

Also, Investors in insurance stocks on the Nigerian Exchange Ltd. (NGX) traded 481.1 million shares worth N1.41 billion in 10,655 transactions last week.

This was lower than 523.5 million shares valued at N1.45 billion exchanged across 12,666 transactions in the preceding week.

The market recorded slight declines, with value dropping by 2.5 per cent, volume down 8.8 per cent, and deals dipping by 18.9 per cent.

The Nigerian Exchange Ltd. provided the trading data on Saturday.

Sixteen insurance companies were reported to have traded during the week, with Regency Alliance Insurance leading after transacting 102.6 million shares worth N176.9 million in 1,619 deals.

Lasaco Assurance followed with 55.9 million shares valued at N168.1 million across 584 deals, while AIICO Insurance recorded 36.8 million shares worth N149.5 million in 2,052 transactions.

Veritas Kapital Assurance sold 62.04 million shares worth N135.4 million in 764 transactions, while Sovereign Trust Insurance traded 41.2 million shares valued at N123.5 million across 576 deals.

Nem Insurance exchanged 3.9 million shares worth N111.3 million in 459 deals, while Consolidated Hallmark Holdings sold 24.8 million shares valued at N105.2 million in 460 transactions.

Cornerstone Insurance traded 15.4 million shares worth N102.6 million across 430 deals, while Mutual Benefits Assurance sold 22.6 million shares valued at N89.4 million in 667 transactions.

Universal Insurance recorded 54.7 million shares worth N66.4 million in 695 deals, while AXA Mansard Insurance sold three million shares valued at N47.7 million in 490 transactions.

Linkage Assurance traded 19.6 million shares worth N41.9 million across 291 deals, while WAPIC Insurance recorded 8.5 million shares valued at N28.7 million in 484 transactions.

Prestige Assurance exchanged 15.5 million shares worth N28.21 million across 342 deals, while Sunu Assurances transacted 4.98 million shares valued at N27.3 million in 291 transactions.

Lastly, Guinea Insurance traded 9.35 million shares valued at N15.01 million across 451 deals.
