EPL: Why I joined Chelsea – Ugochukwu

Published

on

Chelsea midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu has explained his decision to join the Blues.

Ugochukwu joined Chelsea from Stade Rennais in the recently concluded summer transfer window.

Chelsea raised a few eyebrows by paying €27 million for a relatively unknown 19-year-old star from the Ligue 1 club.

Before his move to Chelsea, Ugochukwu made 60 senior appearances across competitions for Stade Rennais after joining their academy in 2012.

Given his age and relative inexperience at the top level of football, Ugochukwu could find it tough to nail a spot in Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino’s first eleven.

Also, some may feel that a move to Chelsea has come too early in his career.

However, he has now given a simple explanation behind his decision to join the Premier League giants.

Ugochuwku said the chance to join a club of Chelsea’s stature doesn’t come around often.

“When someone tells me you are young, why did you go to Chelsea, I answer that there are trains that don’t pass twice,” Ugochukwu said (via Le Parisien).
